Invictus Gaming barely managed to squeeze their way into the DPL-CDA Pro League playoffs after a very unconvincing run through the group stage. Even though their 4-5 record sat them two wins above the relegation line, the expectations put on The International 2012 champions were significantly higher than an eighth-place finish.
Unlike their regional rivals, ViCi Gaming impressed in the DPL-CDA group stage. They won seven of nine series played, with their only losses coming against CDEC Gaming (0-2) in Week 1 and PSG.LGD (1-2) in Week 2, while a 15-7 map differential guaranteed them the top seeding in the playoffs.
Zeng “Ori” Jiaoyang and his crew hold a 9-1 record from their last 10 matches in all competitions, which is far more impressive than Invictus Gaming’s 5-5 record. Having said that, the head-to-head record between ViCi and IG shows there is not a lot to set these two teams apart.
Out of 12 series played in 2020, ViCi have won seven to IG’s five. Additionally, ViCi have won 51.6% of their 31 games (16), leaving IG with a 48.4% win rate (15). Their last two meetings both ended with 2-1 wins for ViCi.
ViCi are priced as massive favourites for this clash, but their betting odds are a bit too low for our liking. These online Dota2 fixtures are often close and considering the last two games – and five of the last 10 – between ViCi and IG ended with all three maps played, it makes sense to place our money on the overs.
TEAM ASTER vs SPARKING ARROW GAMING DOTA 2 BETTING & MATCH DETAILS |

Dota 2 Betting Odds: | Aster $1.64 at GG Bet | SAG $2.14 at GG Bet |

Team Aster finished the group stage in fourth place with a 6-3 record and 12-7 map differential, whereas Sparking Arrow Gaming ran fifth with figures of 5-4 and 12-9.
These two Chinese Dota2 teams last met on Wednesday when Aster came away with a commanding 2-0 win, which tied their head-to-head record at 3-3. Not only have Aster and SAG split the six meetings, they’ve also won six games apiece. Aster won both of the last two meetings 2-0, however, so it should not as no surprise that Pan “Fade” Yi and co. enter this bout as the favourites.
Aster are 5-5 in their last 10 fixtures, whereas SAG hold a 4-6 record. Despite their slightly worse record, Sparking Arrow looked good in their last two fixtures when defeating Invictus Gaming (2-0) and forcing ViCi Gaming (1-2) to three maps. Aster, on the other side, struggled a bit against Royal never Give Up (2-1) on Thursday and lost their most recent bout against EHOME (0-2).
While the head-to-head record suggests Team Aster are the most likely victors, Sparking Arrow Gaming are a better chance than the latest Dota 2 betting odds would appear to suggest. They defeated IG recently and came close to beating ViCi just a couple of days ago, so the form is solid.
Also, Sparking Arrow’s recent roster swap with Royal Never Give Up has made a big difference, as Gao “Setsu” Zhenxiong and Xue “September” Zhichuan are huge upgrades on Liu “白学家” Yuhao and Chong “FelixCiaoBa” Wei. SAG have won seven out of 11 maps since, due in large part to Setsu’s strong allround performances (5.68 KDA, 290.27 LH and 23.73 DN).
With their new additions, Sparking Arrow Gaming have improved enough for us to believe they can take down Aster for the fourth time in their history. While it will be a tough feat to achieve, the generous betting odds make it hard to ignore the upwardly trending outsiders here.
Team Aster and Sparking Arrow Gaming will clash for the sixth time in their history this Wednesday during the final week of the DPL-CDA Professional League regular season.
A 4-2 record and 8-4 map differential puts Team Aster fifth in the DPL-CDA Pro League Season 2 standings. So far they have defeated Sirius (2-0), IG.Vitality (2-0), CDEC Gaming (2-0) and PSG.LGD (2-0), while they failed to show up against IG (0-2) and ViCi Gaming (0-2).

Looking at Aster’s results, it’s hard to say where they are going. While their triumphs over IG.Vitality and Sirius were expected, it’s somewhat shocking to see them lose to IG and ViCi considering they had no issues against PSG.LGD and CDEC Gaming.
Aster will enter this match with a 4-6 record in their last 10 games and a 50% win rate across the last week. Since last Monday, Aster have defeated PSG.LGD and CDEC but lost twice to Invictus Gaming (1-2 and 0-2). Their most recent bout took place four days ago, when IG wrapped up the win in just under 40 minutes.

Pan “Fade” Yi and his crew have now had almost a week to compose themselves and regain some confidence ahead of their seventh fixture of the DPL-CDA Professional League Season 2.
Sparking Arrow Gaming sit fourth in the DPL-CDA Professional League Season 2 standings with the same 4-2 record as Aster, albeit with a slightly better map differential at 9-5. They have picked up some solid wins, including clean sweeps against PSG.LGD and EHOME, but were less impressive in their defeats to Royal Never Give Up (1-2) and CDEC (0-2).

Comparing the pair, it would be fair to say Aster have shown a lot more with their wins against CDEC and PSG.LGD. What’s more, it’s hard to be overly optimistic with SAG’s narrow win against IG.Vitality and their loss to RNG.
Sparking Arrow are 5-5 from their last 10 fixtures and 3-2 in their last five. Their only notable result across the last two weeks was a 2-0 win against EHOME last Friday, but even that is not something to write home about given EHOME are not in the best shape.
These squads have met five times since April. Team Aster won only two series and four of the 10 maps played, whereas Sparking Arrow Gaming picked up three series and six maps.
At the end of June, SAG defeated Aster 2-0 during the group stage of BEYOND EPIC: China. The balance of power, however, has tipped in the other direction since then, with Aster sweeping SAG at OGA Dota PIT S2: China.
Sparking Arrow enter this bout as the favourites, but their performances of late make it hard to agree with Dota 2 bookmakers on this one. Even though SAG won three of their last five games, they defeated only EHOME, Sirius and IG.Vitality. And as Aster defeated SAG just over a week ago, it’s hard to imagine this bout will play out any differently.
Even though we like Aster for this clash, it has the potential to be a close one. There is some value in backing the outsiders at $2.00, but over 2.5 maps played looks the better option at similar odds.
Royal Never Give Up and Sparking Arrow Gaming will continue their race for the DPL-CDA Professional League title and the largest slice of ¥1,300,000 CNY(? US $183,824) this Tuesday when they meet on the opening day of Week 2.
Since finishing seventh-eighth at The International 2019, Royal Never Give Up have seen a fair amount of success in their competitive endeavours. They won ESL One Los Angeles 2020 – Online: China, finished second at Yabo Supreme Cup and WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020, and claimed third place at China Dota2 Professional League Season 2, ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: China, and BEYOND EPIC: China.
Looking back at their BEYOND EPIC campaign, RNG got off to a flying start with wins against EHOME.Immortal (2-0) and Invictus Gaming (2-1), which earned them a direct bye into the upper bracket of the playoffs. There, RNG took down the tournament favourites, PSG.LGD (2-0), only to fall flat against ViCi Gaming (0-2) and Sparking Arrow Gaming (0-2).
In their last 10 fixtures, Royal Never Give Up won only four. They defeated PSG.LGD, Invictus Gaming, EHOME.I and CDEC, while they lost to SAG, ViCi and twice against both IG and PSG.LGD.

Although RNG’s performances may seem all over the place, they tend to only struggle against the strongest Chinese Dota2 teams. Unfortunately for them, Sparking Arrow Gaming have established themselves as such.
SAG enter this bout straight after winning BEYOND EPIC: China, which marked their fourth Dota2 esports title of the year and one of their biggest achievements since the team’s inception in September 2019. They also won China Dota2 Development League Season 2 in March, CDA League Season 1 in April and China Dota2 Development League Season 3 in May. The latest title also serves as a massive morale boost after the disappointing seventh-eighth finish at the ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: China last month.
At BEYOND EPIC, Ou “Op” Peng and his team defeated Team Aster (2-0) and CDEC Gaming (2-1) in the group stage to earn a spot in the upper bracket of the playoffs. There, they stumbled against ViCi (1-2) but bounced back with an impressive run through the lower bracket, where they took down PSG.LGD (2-1) and Royal Never Give Up (2-0).
In the grand finals, Sparking Arrow got their revenge against ViCi (2-0) in convincing fashion, showing powerful synergy and a disciplined approach to the game. That was especially noticeable in game two, where SAG failed to accumulate a high kill margin (17-14) but stayed a step ahead on the back of their superior macro play.
These teams have played each other four times this year, each picking up two wins. Last month Royal Never Give Up defeated Sparking Arrow Gaming (2-0) at DPL-CDA Professional League Season 1, but their most recent bout, at BEYOND EPIC: China, ended in SAG’s favour (2-0).
Even though Sparking Arrow defeated Royal Never Give Up just a day ago and went on to win BEYOND EPIC, they are somehow priced as underdogs for this match. While RNG might have the better individual talents, their shaky displays in recent weeks don’t inspire much confidence.
Some will say Sparking Arrow overachieved with their title-winning run at BEYOND EPIC, but the momentum they have generated should be enough for Op and co. to take down RNG once more this Tuesday.
