The post League of Legends EMEA Championship undergoes massive changes appeared first on Esport Bet.
]]>These changes are aimed at fostering a more intense and equitable competitive landscape, providing teams with new avenues to secure coveted spots at international tournaments and season finals.
Addressing concerns about the transparency of the 2023 system, the LEC has decided to allocate the same amount of points to teams finishing splits in fifth and sixth place, as well as seventh and eighth place.
This adjustment seeks to level the playing field, ensuring that teams with similar regular-season performances are rewarded equally, thus enhancing fairness and clarity.
Maximillian Schmidt, director of League of Legends esports in EMEA, stressed the need for a more transparent system, stating that the changes for 2024 aim to eliminate uncertainties and emphasize playoff performance over regular-season splits.
In addition to the Championship Points adjustment, the LEC is changing how teams qualify for the LEC Season Finals.
In 2024, the second and third-placed teams from the summer split will secure spots in the season finals, irrespective of their championship points or past results.
Tiebreakers will be determined by the teams’ head-to-head records from the regular season, minimizing the impact of tiebreakers on the competitive landscape.
The LEC is also adjusting the qualification process for international tournaments, with changes for MSI and Worlds.
The MSI qualification system remains mostly unchanged, with Winter and Spring Split winners earning the right to represent the EMEA region.
For Worlds, the Summer Split Champion secures an automatic invitation to the event, regardless of their seeding.
Moreover, the LEC is implementing format and schedule adjustments for the 2024 season.
The group and playoff stages will be merged into a single bracket, aiming to enhance the understanding of the LEC format.
The league is maintaining the same number of best-of-three and best-of-five series to uphold competitive integrity.
Artem Bykov, the LEC commissioner, emphasized the league’s commitment to listening to fan feedback, citing the need for improvement in understanding the LEC format.
The schedule adjustments include extended breaks between Winter and Spring Splits, as well as Spring Split and the Mid-Season Invitational, providing teams more time to rest.
Conversely, the break between the Summer Split and the LEC Season Finals will be reduced to address concerns about lengthy player breaks.
These decisions, coupled with other upcoming changes, reflect the LEC’s dedication to evolving and adapting its format based on fan feedback, promising an unmissable show for EMEA League fans in the upcoming season.

]]>The post G2 Esports claim LEC Summer 2023 title appeared first on Esport Bet.
]]>G2 began their LEC Summer campaign as the favourite with most esports betting sites.
After finishing the regular season with an 8-1 record, G2 went into the playoffs as overwhelming favourites to clinch the title.
During the playoffs, G2 only faced one team, as they went up against Excel Esports in the upper-bracket final – defeating them 3-2 – before clashing with them once again in the grand final.
G2 dominated every aspect of the decider, with Martin Yike Sundelin recording an unbelievable stat line of 15 kills, one death and 45 assists for the series, while he compiled a massive 60 KDA.
Unsurprisingly, Yike earned the LEC Summer Finals MVP award after his dominant performance, adding to the two LEC titles he had already won since joining G2 in December of last year.
G2 mid-laner Rasmus Caps Winther won his ninth LEC trophy, which puts him ahead of his ex-teammate Luka Perkz Perkovic for most titles won in Europe’s top LoL competition.
Even though G2 won both the LEC Winter and Summer splits, they are yet to qualify for the 2023 LoL World Championship.
Unlike other top regional leagues, where teams earn qualification through their summer performances, G2 will have to finish in the top three at the LEC Season Finals to book their spot at Worlds in South Korea.
However, it is very likely that the Caps and his teammates will qualify for Worlds, as they are marked as $1.50 favourites with most bookmakers to take out the LEC Season Finals title in late August.

]]>The post 2023 LEC Winter Split kicks off with a G2 Esports win over Excel appeared first on Esport Bet.
]]>The match between G2 Esports and Excel marked a significant milestone for G2 Esports, being the first time in 408 games that the team’s veteran jungler, Jankos, was not fielded in the active lineup of the team. Jankos and G2 parted ways during the off-season, ending a successful five-year run together.
To fill in Jankos’ position, G2 went with rookie player Martin “Yike” Sundelin, who made an immediate impact in the game with a striking 8/1/3 performance on Graves, as his replacement. Yike’s performance was impressive and showed that he has the potential to fill Jankos’ shoes.
Yike was named the MVP of the game, having recorded 8 kills, and 4 assists, while only allowing a frag. G2’s new-look roster proved to be a formidable force, and fans are excited to see how the team will fare in the coming weeks.
G2 Esports also brought in a new AD carry, Steve “Hans Sama” Liv, a European veteran, and reintroduced Michael “Mikyx” Mehle, who had previously played for G2 between 2019 and 2021. Mikyx had joined Excel for the 2022 season, making this match a “revenge game” for him. Together, Mikyx and Hans Sama had a total scoreline of 4/6/15, and their Ashe/Heimerdinger bottom lane helped G2’s team composition with crowd control and sustained damage.
In the off-season, Excel Esports made significant changes to their roster, replacing four of the five starting players. The team brought in solo lane powerhouses Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu and Vincent “Vetheo” Berri, and made a G2-centric swap at the support position with Rapha?l “Targamas” Crabb. Despite the new roster being filled with one-time All-Pros and MVPs, they had a slow start and faced a 3,000 gold deficit at the 15-minute mark of the game.
The best-of-one fixture went in favor of the German franchise led by the 23-year old top laner Sergen “BrokenBlade” ?elik. G2 Esports’ win will build good momentum heading into their next fixture against top LOL team, Fnatic, who lost their first outing to Team Vitality. G2 are designated as favorites to win the matchup on GG.BET with odds pegged at $1.64 as opposed to Fnatic’s odds set at $2.2.
Excel, on the other hand, will take on Finetwork KOI in their second game of the LEC 2023 Winter Split. The Spanish team are the most preferred franchise to win the game with odds of $1.75 and Excel set at $2.03 on GG.BET.
Due to the new format of the LEC season, which features a single round-robin, G2 and Excel, both of which are expected to perform well in the playoffs, will not have the opportunity to face each other again until the post-season, at the earliest. This made the match even more intense and exciting for the fans as they eagerly await the two teams to meet again in the future for a rerun.

]]>The 2022 LEC Season Finals were held in Malm?, Sweden, drawing thousands of fans from across Europe to watch the top three teams compete for the title. This year, the event will take place in Montpellier, a city located in the Occitanie region of Southern France.
Giving all fans a sneak peek of whats yet to come later this year, the LEC team shared the location of this years end-of-season showpiece, as it described the roadshow that will culminate in the Seasonal Final.
The organizers released an official statement announcing the location of the Season Final. The announcement was made on the first day of the 2023 LEC Winter season which featured four fixtures to commence the season.
“2023 may have only begun, but were already looking ahead to our end-of-season showpiece – the LEC Season Finals roadshow,” Riot Games announced.
“This year, we wanted to give our community a sneak peak at what we have in store for our 2023 LEC Season Finals by revealing the location for the event earlier than ever before. Were beyond thrilled to announce that well be hosting our crown jewel event at the spectacular Sud de France Arena in Montpellier, in the Occitanie region!”
The event organizer revealed that choosing France as the host country for the LEC Season Finals was a logical decision, given the nation’s substantial and passionate fanbase for League of Legends, as well as its accessibility to major cities and well-developed infrastructure. Additionally, the French government’s efforts to strengthen ties with the esports industry have created a supportive atmosphere for competitive League events.
According to the LEC team, after the success of the LEC 2022 Summer Finals in Malm?, Sweden, they are eager to bring the live LEC experience to fans in France and other regions. They acknowledged the importance of the French LoL Esports community, which they described as integral to their esport, and regularly support their players in the LEC.
The team also highlighted the strong fanbase of League of Legends in France, who they described as tireless supporters of the domestic league, the LFL (La Ligue Fran?aise), which has grown to become one of the top ERLs in the ecosystem. The team is excited to showcase the best EMEA LoL Esports talent to fans in France and other countries.
Head of Esports, EMEA at Riot Games, Alberto Guerrero, spoke about the location of the 2023 Season Finals being hosted in France.
The LEC Season Finals is the biggest event in the Riot Esports EMEA calendar year and a celebration of the LEC season, providing LoL Esports fans with the opportunity to come together and watch EMEAs best players make history, Guerrero said.
With such a large and spirited LoL Esports fan base in France, were delighted to bring our roadshow back to the country for the first time since 2017, by hosting our showpiece event in Montpellier in the Occitanie region. The city and region were extremely impressive throughout the host city vetting process and their passion and commitment to growing the gaming and esports industries was very evident.
The President of the Occitanie Region, Carole Delga, and the Mayor of Montpellier and President of Montpellier Mditerrane Mtropole, Michael Delafosse, in a joint statement, expressed their excitement about playing host to the Season Finals.
We are proud to host the 2023 LEC Season Finals in the Occitanie Region and in Montpellier Mditerrane Mtropole. The monumental event brings together young people from all over EMEA and hosting the finals showcases our commitment to players in the video games industries. This event will contribute to the influence of our video game ecosystem and its community, among the most important in France and the region.”
The LEC team is excited to bring the event to Montpellier and believes that the city will provide the perfect backdrop for the end-of-season showpiece. Fans can look forward to an unforgettable experience as they witness the crowning of the LEC champions in one of the most beautiful cities in France.

]]>The post G2 Esports reveals their complete 2023 LEC roster appeared first on Esport Bet.
]]>The League of Legends roster includes the two former members of the team, German and Turkish top laner Sergen “BrokenBlade” ?elik, and 23-year old Danish mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther. The three new players are Swedish jungler Martin Yike Sundelin, French bot laner Steven Hans Sama Liv, and support Mihael Mikyx Mehle, who were all rumoured to be signed by G2 Esports at the beginning of the offseason.
Yike will assume the jungler role for the team. The Swedish national has represented other teams like Hybrid Esports, Bulldog Esports, Team Oplon, Morning Stars, and recently LDLC OL. While representing the European team LDLC OL, he has shone in tournaments such as the LFL 2022 Summer, where they came in first place, and the EM 2022 Summer Main Event, which had them in third-fourth place.
Playing the role of support will be Slovenian-born Mikyx, who has represented a handful of top LEC teams such as Fnatic, Splyce, Misfits Gaming, and most recently Excel. He started his professional gaming career in 2016 after serving as a stand-in for Fnatic, for which he received an offer from Splyce afterwards. The support player reached a significant milestone in his League of Legends career when he garnered a total of 1000 kills in the LEC on July 30, 2021. Mikyx also represented Excel at the recent 2022 LEC Summer Playoffs, where the team came out in sixth place.
The League of Legends super star Hans sama will be assuming the bot lane position for the G2 Esports. Since starting his career in 2014 with The Gentle Team, the bot lane player has represented Milenium, Misfits Gaming, Rogue, and most recently Team Liquid. The French player is known to have switched roles throughout his career, as he has functioned as a jungler and top laner at some points in his career. Hans sama was also the eighth player to reach 1,000 kills in the LEC, just after Rekkles, Jankos, Perkz, and a host of other four players. He also competed in the 2022 LCS Championship, where he represented Team Liquid and earned a fourth-place finish.
Caps started his League of Legends career in 2015 with Enigma Esports. Subsequently, he moved on to represent other esports outfits such as the Nerv, Fnatic, Dark Passage, E-Corp Gaming, and mousesports. The mid laner reached 1500 kills recently in the LEC on April 3, 2022, and is also the third player to reach 1500 kills in the LEC after Rekkles and Jankos.
Caps has a handful of awards under his sleeves, including MSI 2019 MVP, LEC MVP At the 2019 Spring 2019 and 2020 Summer. He was also named LEC Finals MVP in 2020 Summer and 2022 Spring and EU LCS MVP in 2018 Summer.
Brokenblade, who is the third player to win a title in both the LEC and LCS, has played for esports outfits such as the Victorious Ace, Royal Bandits TSM, Royal Youth, and a list of others. He has also been a member of G2 Esports since December 2021 and represented the team at the 2022 Worlds, where they made a quite unimpressive run by coming out in 11th-14th place.
According to the event organizers, the LEC is scheduled to commence on January 21, 2023, with the Winter Split as its start event.

]]>The post LEC expands operations to include teams and players from Mena region appeared first on Esport Bet.
]]>The game developer and organizer made this known in their press release on their official LOL EMEA website.
After ten incredible years of League of Legends Esports in Europe, were honoured to announce our plans for the future of the region heading into 2023, the press release read.
Whether youve been with us for ten years or one, were determined to bring you a bigger, better, bolder vision of LoL Esports in the region, and continue innovating to keep the LEC and wider ecosystem at the forefront of a new generation of competitive play.
Today, we’re proud to announce were expanding our region, with Trki?ye, CIS and MENA merging with Europe to become one competitive and united region. Welcome to #EMEA23.
We want EMEA to be a region that brings fans together across multiple continents, competing for regional pride and international success. With this change, were creating pathways for players to reach the pinnacle of League of Legends esports in the region and opportunities to unite fans across EMEA to cheer for the teams they love.
Owing to the expansion, the league will undergo a change of name and will now be known as the League of Legends EMEA Championship, retaining the abbreviation LEC. The change will take effect in the 2023 season and will feature an extra split added to the usual two-split system.
The three splits format to be featured in the LEC going forward will be the Winter Split, Spring Split, and the Summer Split. Each of the splits will feature 10 teams competing against themselves in a best-of-one format. Eight of the ten teams will advance to the best-of-three double elimination group stage, and thereafter, the best four teams will qualify for the best-of-five playoffs.
Each winner of the splits will receive a direct qualification to the LEC Season Finals. The end-of-season event will see the best six teams from the EMEA region across the season compete for the championship title.
The winner of the Spring Split will also represent the region in the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI). The Finals of the LEC Season will offer direct qualification to the League of Legends World Championship.
The previous LEC franchise selection of ten partnered teams, which includes Team Heretics due to their purchase of the slot previously owned by the Misfits, and KOI, which saw the emergence of Rogue, remains the same. As previously done, the circuits will consist of the rebranded Amazon EMEA Masters, which was previously known as the Amazon EU Masters, alongside 13 EMEA Regional Leagues (ERL) looking to qualify for it.
The additional ERLs will include the Turkish Championship League (TCL) and the Arabian League (AL), formerly known as the Intel Arabian Cup. Due to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the League of Legends Continental League (LCL) continues to remain suspended but could be added to the LEC sometime in the future. However, players from the region are allowed the same recidency status as their peers in the EMEA region.League
On Riot Games official LOL EMEA website, the organizer stated that the format is a pilot program as LoL Esports considers broader changes to the competitive calendar and season structure in 2024. It also reassured the public that, peradventure, if the format succeeds in its pilot phase among fans, teams, and players, it will expand its structure to accommodate more regions in the next variations.
The game developer and organizer stated that their plans on how the competitive structure would work would be revealed as the new season approaches. It also assures that change will offer an opportunity to unite fans across the EMEA region.
We want EMEA to be a region that brings fans together across multiple continents, competing for regional pride and international success, the official website reads.
With this change, were creating pathways for players to reach the pinnacle of League of Legends esports in the region and opportunities to unite fans across EMEA to cheer for the teams they love.

]]>The post KOI and Rogue enter into strategic alliance ahead of LEC 2023 season appeared first on Esport Bet.
]]>Rogues League of Legends team will be rebranded for the 2023 LEC Spring Split, but it is not certain whether the team will be known as KOI. Despite the move, Rogues current management will continue to be in charge of the operations and management structure of the primary League of Legends team.
There are not a lot of details known concerning the partnership; as such, the percentage split, as well as the purchase amount, are unconfirmed. Besides the rebranding, the partnership will also see the co-owner of KOI, Llanos, become the featured ambassador of both organizations as well as their respective teams.
Llanos commented on the recent partnership and revealed that it would speed up the growth of the company as well as provide more opportunities for them.
I couldnt be more proud of KOI and what weve been able to achieve in such a short period of time, Llanos said.
This partnership with Rogue just accelerates our growth and broadens our opportunities to provide the most engaging and exciting experiences for our fans.
Anna Baumann, the Executive Vice President of Esports of Rouges parent company, Infinite Reality, also had some comments about the partnership. She explained that the company was thrilled to be working with KOI, and they hoped to supply fans with better content in the future.
Having established Rogue as a world-leading talent factory with championship-winning teams, we could not be more thrilled to be working with KOI, Baumann said.
With this alliance, we can up the game and serve our fans even more industry-leading entertaining content, all while continuing to build Ibais legacy in esports.
Reports concerning the merger between Rogue and KOI started making the rounds in August. At the time, it was mentioned that Rogue would retain their LEC spot and move the European Regional League lineup to LVP Superliga Spain from the Ultraliga. The official details concerning the move were not shared along with the merger announcement.
The merger will undoubtedly benefit both organizations, mainly due to Rogues expertise in building and discovering league talent and KOIs branding. Both organizations have individually impressive fan bases, so operating under the same banner will vastly increase their popularity.
Rogue had their most successful League of Legends season this year and were awarded the champions of the LEC 2022 Summer Split. The North American team are currently among the number of teams participating in the League of Legends World Championships as Europes No 1 seed.
KOI, for their part, have had an impressive year and were one of the few teams in September to be selected for the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT). The team also notably collaborated with Shikenso Analytics in June in order to keep track of their existing partnerships performances.
The merger between both companies will officially take effect in 2023. Meanwhile, fans can watch Rogues League of Legends team participate in their first World Championship 2022 fixture, taking place later today against DRX. Rogue have been designated as underdogs in the matchup, with odds pegged at $2.45 on top esports betting sites.

]]>The post Nisqy declared MVP of the 2022 LEC Summer Split appeared first on Esport Bet.
]]>After announcing the All-Pro Team and Rookie of the Split, fans waited with bated breath for the winner of the most coveted title to be announced. The MVP award is usually given to the LEC player who played the most part in their teams success. This includes helping them get important wins in the LEC playoff run-offs and performing in top form during the game.
Nisqy was among one the favorites to receive the award after finishing in the opening All-Pro Team held this summer. The player also earned seven Player of the Game awards, the most recorded in the regular season.
The mid laner received 124 MVP votes in total from broadcast partners, teams, casters, and affiliated media. The votes were double that of the runner-up, his MAD Lions teammate, Javier “Elyoya” Prades, who came in second. Rasmus “caPs” Winther, G2s midlaner, finished in third place, but he has been awarded three MVP awards in his career.
The MVP award is Nigsys first, but he was previously a part of two All-Pro teams, first in North America (Spring 2020) and then in Europe (Summer 2022). He is the third mid laner to be given the title since it started in 2014. Caps was the first, and then Vincent Vetheo Berri, the most recent winner in spring 2022.
Nisqy joined the MAD Lions in May this year and helped the team reach second place with a 12-6 record at the end of the regular season despite being unable to qualify for the spring playoffs. He was signed onto the team after being away from professional play for six months.
He previously played with Fnatic, and went on to part ways with the team after performing poorly in the 2021 League of Legends World Championship. In December of that year, Nisqy was moved to a substitute position in the squad but did not find a new team in time for the 2022 season.
In order to sign on the player, MAD Lions player Steven Reeker Che was moved to a LFL team, BDS Academy, earlier. Nisqys performance was undoubtedly integral to the teams improvement this season.
The MAD Lions were previously unable to qualify for the playoffs for the 2022 LEC Spring Split and finished the tournament in seventh place. The team earned an 8-10 record, much different from when they won both splits in 2021.
Nisqy earned a 4.3 KDA in the regular season, and an impressive 75.2 percent kill participation. The player is expected to earn another MVP award in the playoffs. He was previously named as the preferred gamer to win the MVP award by past MVP winners like Caps and Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski.
MAD Lions began their summer split journey on August 26, with a game against Rogue. Despite being close favorites with moneyline odds of $1.88 and $1.97 for Rogue with the top betting sites, MAD Lions lost to Rogue. Due to the 2-3 defeat, the Spanish franchise made an early exit from the playoffs.
The winner of the summer split will be crowned the domestic champion and automatically qualify for the highly anticipated 2022 World Championship. Four European teams will reportedly represent the region in the international event in a bid to clinch a large chunk of the $2,225,000 prize pool.

]]>The post Team BDS suffers their seventh loss in the 2022 LEC Summer appeared first on Esport Bet.
]]>The team have failed to show any improvement from their Spring showing despite roster changes.
BDS have not performed well in their first year of participating in the LEC. They finished one spot above Astralis during the Spring, and are headed in the same direction this summer.
They lost their first three matches this summer to SK Gaming, Astralis, and Team Vitality. In week 2, they attempted a turnaround, winning G2 Esports after 35 minutes of action.
However, that represents their only victory so far, as they endured consecutive losses against Fnatic, Misfits Gaming, and Excel Esports.
Before the start of week 4, the team announced that they would be participating remotely due to the COVID-19 scare. BDS’ top laner, Tobiasz Agresivoo Ciba, tested positive for the virus, resulting in the team not returning to the LEC Studio in Berlin.
“During our most-recent internal routine COVID Test, Tobiasz Agresivoo Ciba has returned with a PCR test, we now sadly have to announce that we are competing remotely for this Week 4 of the LEC.”
The announcement revealed that the 23-year-old was showing mild symptoms. The Swedish esports organization also said that their players’ health and safety is a top priority.
“Tobi has only been showing very mild symptoms yet please join us in wishing him a swift recovery.
Agresivoo joined the team at the end of May, replacing Adam “Adam” Maanane, in what seemed to have been an exchange of spots. Adam was relegated to the academy team while Agresivoo was promoted. Nonetheless, his experience in the French regional league has not helped BDS win.
Participating remotely has not helped their cause, as they lost the first match of week 4. They squared off against MAD Lions and suffered one of their quickest defeats in this split.
MAD were the heavy favorites across several betting platforms with moneyline odds of $1.19, making their victory expected. BDS were pegged at $4.84.
Things will not get easier for BDS as they take on Rogue on July 16. The early numbers on sportsbooks pegs Rogue as the favorites with $1.12 odds.
BDS have three weeks and one super week to redeem themselves. A top-six finish in the group stage will guarantee them a spot in the playoffs. If they manage to finish in the top three after all said and done in the summer split, they will be participating in the 2022 World Championship.
